Default BSkyB says not in joining ITV local news revamp

BSKYB has said that they will not join a consortium of news outlets that is currently bidding to replace ITV's local news programs, saying that the move is 'inconsistent with our reputation for independence'.

Sky, I think, was approached by other media companies about the possibility of joining them to take over ITV1's local news bulletins in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland.

I think Sky is thinking that since the consortium is going to be funded by public money, it will undermine its credibility and independence.

Yeah. I heard that Sky even cautioned Ofcom to make sure that the public funding scheme wouldn't affect commercial relationships between other regional news providers in the country. Also, Sky said that Ofcom should make sure that consumer choice is not reduced and monopolized.

From what I've read, it's ITN, Guardian Media, and STV.
