besides each of us has an identifiable IP address when we use the Internet, so you can be easily pinpointed if they want to.
No we are basically saying that you don't have to download illegal content anymore. Youtube provides free content and major websites such as napster are so cheap that its not worth the risk of getting caught. Especially with the clamp down but I agree they should not be targeting individuals they should be shutting down the platforms that allow illegal downloads.

Speaking of risk!

Pirate Bay's owners have been levied a hefty fine and were imprisoned last week, after they lost a Swedish trial.

OOooooh... one point for the Movie Picture Association of America! Pirate Bay is not only a filesharing sites that allows you to download bootleg stuff, but also pokes fun at the MPAA and the music industry.

Well, it's £2.4 million, plus one year imprisonment. That's just for encouraging filesharing.

I agree. This is a big blow against piracy.

Well, the severity of the punishment fits the crime. I think it will scare off other sites now that the movie and music industries have made an example out of PirateBay.

I don't think so. I think the fact remains that anybody with a computer and a server will be able to copy, distribute and share pirated materials. So piracy will continue... if not on Pirate Bay, then on some other Web site!

What the music and movie industry should do is not to go after piracy companies, it's a waste of time. If they shut down one, another 10 will surface, that's how dynamic the Internet is! But they should instead focus on technologies that would allow them to protect their content. Innovations like this is what they should be spending time on!

I think that there are laws against piracy. All it takes is the political will to enforce them. Constant and effective enforcement should be enough. One-time big verdicts will not do it. It should be regulated to a point where there is one site shut down everyday or as soon as it sprouts. That will send the message that the authorities are serious.
