Sky Have claimed that watching HD programming can improve the psychological well being of the viewer. The claim came from one of the leading psychologist and agony aunt Donna Dawson from UK Livings " Agony Hour". Dawson has created the Happier Days TV Guide which give an emotional rating based on how each show can aid with the viewer mental well being. The sky+plus HD Happier Days TV Guide can be downloaded from www.skyhappierdays.com when the website launches. Satchat

That may be true. It could be the other way around, but a study showed that happy people read more than unhappy people. The American survey included 30,000 adults and conducted over a 31 year time frame from 1975 to 2006.

I think I've read about that. They found that unhappy people watch 25 hours or so of TV in a week. But I am thinking that this is because unhappy people often feel lethargic and do not want to move much or use their brains much. Reading can tax your brain.

I agree, am not sure if its TV causing depression or depression driving you to watch more TV.

I think that this chicken and egg discussion could go on for ages. TV and depression are surely linked together, but causation have not yet been proven. A recent study, however, may be more telling. The Archives of General Psychiatry has found that teeners who watch more TV are more inclined to suffer from depression later on in life. The study involved 4,100 teeners who were initially interviewed and then were interviewed again after 7 years.
