Default Sky HD Box Review Pace TDS850NB Sky+ HD Digibox

Live Premiership games are available on Sky Sports this season. Available in HD order Sky HD online at Sky.com, with £30 installation

When the Pace TDS850NB Sky+ HD Digibox first came out late last year, it faced steep competition from another Sky+ HD Digibox: the Samsung HDSKY Sky+ HD Digibox. By some fluke of chance, however, both digiboxes were deemed better than what most of us were getting: the Thomson digiboxes. And soon both were selling like pancakes.

With the notoriety of the Thomson brand, with numerous reports of being unreliable and having intermittent problems, both Pace and Samsung enjoyed brisk sales. Pace, however, also had another thing going for it: word of mouth coupled with the sterling performance of previous models. The Pace TDS850NB Sky+ HD Digibox has been known to give the best experience in showing Sky TV: whether it is standard TV or HD TV.

In terms of appearance, however, the Pace TDS850NB Sky+ HD Digibox is no different from all of the others: black, sleek, eye-catching and ergonomic. And like most, it has a 300 gigabyte hard drive space that allows you to record all your favorite programmes, granted that you have Sky+, which requires an active subscription to Sky. All in all, you get up to 160 gigabytes of personal space, which translates to a recording time of up to 150 hours.

But more than the similarities, the Pace Digibox has been tested to be more reliable than the Thomson, which as we all know goes wrong all the time. Pace has a much faster EPG, and is noticeably quieter. More than that, it has improved signal strength, and slightly improved picture quality. Some earlier adopters have reported lip sync problems, but that seems to have been solved. If you're a Sky+ fan, you'd be delighted to find that the Pace TDS850NB Sky+ HD Digibox is great at rewinding and fast-forwarding even at full speed.

The Pace TDS850NB Sky+ HD Digibox is ready for any Sky package, whether you have an existing Sky subscription, Sky+ or HD Mix. Sky subscription packages go as low as £10 to £16.50 per month. The Pace TDS850NB allows you to install a Quad LNB and a second cable. This way you can access two channels simultaneously, record one while watching another, or maybe record both while still being able to watch something that you've recorded yesterday. You can also do without Sky and enjoy the free HD channels like Luxe HD and BBC HD.
Additionally, the Pace TDS850NB is very easy to set up. Its instruction manual has everything you need to know, and all it takes is around 10 minutes to get the box out and set it up.

You might, however, have to wait for a couple of weeks before you get your hands on the Pace TDS850NB because it is currently unavailable. Some online retailers are advising three to four weeks of waiting without any guarantees and Amazon UK does not even carry it for now. I guess that is what you have to pay for having a great Digibox out in the market.

Cool Sky Italia Pace DS820NS Box

I have a Pace DS820NS Sky HD box. Can I change the menus to English? Without using a converter is there a way for it to send video in the NTSC format? Are there any secret codes?

While I am not used to the MENU in sky italia the UK version does not allow you to change the menu to a different language it allows you to have different language subtitles and set your favourite language but that does not alter the menu. Best way to covert formats would be to get it onto your computer then change the format.

I don't think you can do that. But then again, the DS820NS is not a box that am familiar with
