Christmas is great.

I think it's much better to cut back on people - who wants to spend less on those close to them? Cards are fine for everyone else... after all - it's the thought that counts!

Default Christmas cards are the problem

The amount that everyone spends on christmas cards is ridiculous. I think I will be saving the environment and my money by sending emails and if you don't have an email address your card must have got lost in the post

the recession really affected so many lives and businesses. but i just really hope that everything will be going fine. and i think that we also had this thing before but the economy was able to handle this situation and put things back.

to be blunt about it? if a recession could curb spendng and teach us how to value money, then bring it on

while i agree that there is a change in attitude towards spending nowadays, i think that it's really not that felt... i mean people will save, and retailers will suffer, but as to if our general economy is going to the dogs??? that will be unlikely... even if it does, it will affect a small part of our population... besides, i think we are a resilient bunch, so whatever happens, we'd find ways to survive...

living life without the accustomed trappings maybe difficult at first, but we get used to it in time.

I actually have a change of heart. I was reading the holiday results for retailers in the US and then read the online spending for US online retailers... For the first time in 8 years, online sales fell... and retailers also have lower sales this year compared to last year... maybe in the US things are really felt. I would love to get the data on UK.

I think UK retailers also had a dismal season. I think it's true for the rest of the world.
