Default BT Vision boss Dan Marks quits

Dan Marks, the chief executive of BT Vision has quit. Marks says he was frustrated with Sky's dominance with premiership football.

This was a sad development. Marks has only been heading BT for like 5 years, and I was hoping that being a film director, he would do a lot of innovations in BT Vision

Marks, if I remember correctly, made a good impression with the public, thinking that he would be the one to diversify BT's revenue streams... and who could forget his remarks to "revolutionise" customers' relationship with TV".

Too bad Marks quit not because he has done everything for BT Vision, but because of some competitor. I guess it just shows that he's not cut out for the job.

I would agree with that thought. Marks promised 3 million subscribers by 2010. BT only has half a million now. I don't think that it will be able to sign up 2.5 million customers in such little time to make up for its promised subscriber base. So I guess Marks has failed BT in that aspect.

Marks has blamed Sky for that one, saying that BT's lack of Premiereship football as the reason why they were not able to get the desired number of subscribers.

It was quite clear that BT would never compete with Sky with regards to premiership football so Dan Marks statement is complete rubbish. I have had access to BT vision and what really annoys me about the service is the complete lack of quality in broadcasting. The recordings are jumping all over the place and on demand TV is the same. Being told to turn off your laptops to solve the problem when I spend quite a bit of time on the internet just seems a rubbish solution not to mention only getting one of the two services paid for.

At the low cost that BT vision is at you would expect the subscribers to be rolling in but guess what BT is offering nothing different! Sky can charge what they charge because they provide us with what we want sport, movies and latest tv programmes.

If you want to compete create something new don't moan when you use the same programmes and get no results.

Marks also said that if Sky was not so dominant in Premiership football, they would have been in a better position to compete. He also said that Sky is to blame for Setanta's problems... and he foresees BT as having the same problems as Setanta.

Marks also reiterated that he was disappointed due to the regulatory delays in Project Canvas, which would have boosted Internet TV.

Is it true that Marks might be replacing Michael Grade at ITV?
