Sky showed off what it calls the "home of 2012" at the IPTV World Forum, which displays the concept of "networked homes" wherein set-top boxes are connected to the Internet and networked throughout the home

Well, I think that they are right on target with that one. Merging TV and Broadband is the way to go for the future.

I think that having a networked home also serves Sky another purpose: VOD. If you remember, Sky's satellite platform is not one to lend itself well to VOD, so having broadband interlinked with its existing platform takes care of that.

Sky wants every TV and every computer to be networked, meaning that each member of that household has access to shared content, no matter if they use the computer or just the TV. Sky also envisions that recorded programs may be transferred within the network.

Sky also wants the future to have individual profiles and customisable EPGs.

I wonder how much this would all cost?

We don't know yet. For now, even Sky doesn't know when it will be made into reality, saying that it is just concept for now. but I do hope that it will be possible by 2012, as Sky envisioned it!

I think that Sky has the technology and the budget to pull this off. Now if they can only pair it off with a great price, then they should have a blockbuster on their hands.
