I'm sure most of you are familiar with this. Yup, I am looking back 20 years ago to when I first played Super Mario Brothers and got introduced to Mario, Luigi and King Koopa :)
This game really put Nintendo consoles into a lot of homes. I remember that when I first bought this game (I had to grovel with my dad to have him buy it) my friends would trade their bikes for it :) Those were good days.

Even by today's standards, Mario would still be a hit. I think it was so enjoyable that I didn't mind sore thumbs and the eyestrain playing it day in and day out! Woohoo! Memories!

I know what you mean, I used to play this game from level 1-1 up to level 8-4! And get this, I did not really use those warp zones :)

I bet you did not use warp zone because you couldn't get the hundred lives trick :P

Was the hundred lives trick a glitch in the system that turned out to be a welcome feature or did Nintendo really mean for that to be included?

I think that was for Contra :) It increased the lives from 3 to 30 :)

The konami code was actually featured in several games :)

I remember that if you jump off the platform to the flag at the right time, you get six or three firecracker explosions. If you jump at anytime when the time ends in 0, you land on the pole at a time ending in 6 and that gets you 6 firecrackers.

Super Mario has been very successful as a game. And I base this not from the sequels it spawned, or the copycats it inspired, but more on the culture. I think a lot of us grew up with Mario and it is not difficult for us to understand when some speaks in mario code. The invasion to real life may also be seen in other respects as well. My son's preschool room had a mario motif :) I had a mario ring tone for my mobile.

I agree with your observations. Even now, I still hear those electronic sounds going beep beep inside my head.
